Transforming your current space into one that brings you Wonder and Imagination in Everyday Living is an exciting prospect, but on your own it can also be a daunting one. After an initial phone call for B. Thiel Designs to gain an overview of your project and for you to gain a better understanding of the process we will schedule an on-site meeting. Once on-site we will walk through the space and discuss your project in depth to gain an understanding of your how you live in your space now and how you ideally want to live in your space. We will take detailed photos and measurements which we will take back to perform a detailed space analysis and create scaled plans of current conditions that will serve as a base to create a set of design options for you to choose from. Depending on the scope of your project this set could include 2-D floor, furniture and lighting plans to understand furniture placement, elevations to visualize what your walls could look like or even rendered 2-D and 3-D images to better understand floor and wall finish plans and bring the design to life!

Once the general design has been nailed down we begin the process of selecting specific pieces of furniture, art, lighting, floor and wall finishes, including custom paint designs, window treatments, all the way down to door knobs and light switch covers! We love to hear about your inspiration, your hopes and your dreams for the space as we begin to curate groups of design elements for you to choose from. We will determine how involved you want to be in the process of sourcing and purchasing any and all of these elements. For those who like to shop and buy things on there own we can put together a detailed shopping list with vendors. For those who want to full experience we can choose from items available to the public as well as those exclusive to the trade. For the full service experience we will put together sample boards, often allowing you to feel the fabrics, woods and stones. Material samples, especially paint, are important to see on site. The quality and quantity of light in any space plays a huge role in how your experience materials, so we often suggest placing certain material samples on site and viewing them throughout the day and in different weather conditions to get a firm understanding of how they will perform in your space.

Envisioning a design and choosing amazing furniture, art and wallpaper can be a wonderfully fun experience. Procurement, tracking, scheduling and installation oversight tends to be less exciting. B. Thiel Designs offers project management services to address these critically important steps in creating a successful space. For projects incorporating custom products like sofas and cabinetry B. Thiel Designs will serve as a liaison to the trades and handle making sure each item is created as specified. We will also be there on installation day to make sure it all comes together. The reality is that in the great game of shipping some things arrive in less than ideal shape, even from the best of vendors. B. Thiel Designs will work with the vendor to help get your item repaired or replaced. We are committed to helping you create your slice of Wonder and Imagination in Everyday Living!
Frequently Asked Questions
I am only looking for help with how to arrange furniture in my room, can that be a stand alone service?
Yes, B. Thiel Designs offers furniture plans as a stand alone service. We can generate plans using your existing furniture (be warned, there may be limited options) OR we can generate furniture plan ideas with generic, but commonly sized items for you to use as a guide when shopping for yourself.
We are having renovations done on our house and would love a second set of eyes on the plans, do you offer floor plan review services?
Yes, we can review measured, scaled floor plans provided by your contractor, architect, etc. to see how well they may work for your style of living. It is often helpful to generate furniture plan ideas to see how your exiting furniture or how suggested sizes of yet to be bought furniture might fit within the space.
We have never worked with an interior designer before, how does the billing work?
Great question! B. Thiel Designs offers a variety of packages depending upon the situation.
For well defined projects we can work out a package cost that will include a specified number of initial design concepts and revisions for floor / furniture plans. If you choose to have B. Thiel Designs select, procure and oversee product installations we would work out a similar, defined set of terms. Costs are calculated based on average times to accomplish defined tasks at an hourly billing rate of $75.
For those who like options, know they change their minds often or have more of an open ended project in mind billing at an hourly rate of $75 on a monthly basis may work best. In this case an initial retainer fee, which varies based on the initial scope of work, will be requested and billed against monthly. When the retainer is exhausted new bills will generated and sent on a monthly basis as needed. Any money left in the retainer at the cessation of work and delivery of all product would be returned to the client. This option often works out best for both the client and the designer as the fees exactly match the amount of work done while allowing maximum flexibility in the design process.
What is the benefit of buying product through B. Thiel designs?
There are a number of benefits of buying product through your interior designer. Designers often have access to products from vendors who only sell "to the trade" and so you gain access to more unique, customizable pieces. Designer's also typically have access to discounts on product. B. Thiel Designs believes in passing these discounts onto the customer. Customers will be billed for the time it takes to source, purchase, track and install product while receiving a discount on the product itself. Since B. Thiel Designs handles these elements on product purchased through us you have less to worry about from start to finish.
Do you guarantee any product or tradesperson workmanship?
No, B. Thiel Designs does not provide any guarantee against product or tradeperson workmanship. We may work on your behalf to correct any issues that may arise but are not responsible for issues with product or craftsmanship from outside companies or tradespeople.
Does B. Thiel Designs provide any plumbers, electricians, cabinetmakers, etc.?
When appropriate and available B. Thiel Designs may offer options of tradespeople that they have worked with before for client consideration. Ultimately the client would choose on their own and contract directly with a given tradesperson. B. Thiel Designs would then work with that tradesperson, providing design concept drawings, etc. to aide in achieving the client's desired outcome. B. Thiel Designs would in no way be responsible for the quality or completion of work by a given tradesperson that had contracted directly with a client.
